1. Who We Are
LocalEatz (localeatz.co.nz) is an online marketplace connecting local food sellers and buyers in New Zealand. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and the choices you have. Privacy questions: support@localeatz.co.nz
2. What We Collect
Account details: your name and email address, plus any optional profile details you add. Sellers additionally provide business details — business name and contact details, GST number if given, and bank account details used so buyers can pay by bank transfer. Orders include the delivery address and contact details you enter at checkout; guest checkout collects an email address for order updates. Messages to sellers, reviews, and feedback you submit are stored so we can display and moderate them. If you open a support ticket, you can choose to share one of your conversations with our support team so they can help resolve a dispute — support staff can then read that conversation's messages, and every such access is logged. We may also review a conversation's messages when a participant reports it. The other participant is not notified of sharing or reporting.
3. Information Collected Automatically
When you sign in or register we record your IP address. To keep the marketplace working well and detect misuse we keep activity records (such as orders placed, listings created, and content changes) and search analytics (what was searched and clicked), which include IP address and browser details. Order and account changes are kept in an audit trail.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
Essential cookies keep you signed in and remember your language. Your browser's local storage holds things like your cart, checkout progress, and theme preference. Optional analytics cookies are used only if you accept them in the cookie banner — you can decline and the site works normally.
5. Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages viewed and shopping events such as add-to-cart and purchases). You can decline analytics in the cookie banner, and your choice is remembered.
6. Payments
Cash and bank-transfer payments go directly between buyer and seller — LocalEatz does not receive or hold that money, and buyers enter no card details. Seller subscription billing is processed by Stripe; a subscribing seller's card details go to Stripe and never touch our servers. If buyer card payment is enabled in future, it would likewise be processed by Stripe. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to its processing.
7. Email
We send transactional email — for example order confirmations, password resets, and account verification — through our email delivery provider. Delivery status and open/click events (which include IP address and device details) may be recorded to keep email working reliably. We do not send marketing email.
8. Who We Share Information With
Sellers see the order details they need to fulfil your order (your name, contact details, and delivery address for delivery orders). Service providers process data for us — payment processing (Stripe), email delivery, and hosting. We do not sell your personal information.
9. How Long We Keep Information
Account information is kept while your account is active. Order and transaction records may be kept for up to 7 years to meet tax and record-keeping obligations. Activity and analytics records are kept only as long as needed for the purposes above.
10. Your Rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. You can also ask us to delete your account — some records (such as completed orders) may need to be retained where the law requires. Contact support@localeatz.co.nz; if you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
11. Children
LocalEatz is for people aged 18 and over; we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version and date are shown at the top of this page, and material changes will be announced on the platform.
